Recently one of the Cat&Dogsure team members saw a dog lose their breakfast on an early morning exercise walk.
This posed an important topic to broach: Feeding dogs before or after walks.

First Step: ALWAYS talk to your vet about your pet’s health, feeding and exercise routine.
The general consensus is that it’s best to feed your dog after their walk but not immediately afterward. Waiting 30-45 minutes allows them to cool down and prevents digestive issues.
Feeding your dog right before exercise can increase the risk of bloat or GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus), a serious, life-threatening condition more common in large breeds.
If you need to feed them before a walk, allow at least an hour for digestion before heading out. Keeping a consistent feeding schedule – typically twice a day, 10-12 hours apart – helps maintain their digestive health and energy levels.
Every dog is different, so consider their size, age, activity level, and health needs.
And again: ALWAYS consult your vet if you’re unsure about the best approach for your furry friend’s feeding and exercise habits! ![]()
Happy tails!
